When I first decided I wanted a companion ASD, I began my search for a breeder. After numerous calls to other breeders who only wanted to quote me a price, I stumbled upon the Long’s website and fell in love with a puppy called “Blondie”. Unlike the other breeders, when I mentioned I was interested in Blondie, Jan started asking me questions. This is a sign of a breeder who wants to make sure their puppies find a good fit. She said that Blondie wouldn’t be a good fit as a companion but there was another puppy in the litter that MAY work. She then spent the next several days acclimating the puppy to being indoors. When it was determined “Ky” (I changed the spelling to Cai), would be a good fit, Jan spend numerous hours on the phone answering my questions and addressing my concerns. Over the next several years, Jan was always willing to lend assistance and advice. Even 7 years later, we are still in touch. I send pictures and give updates. They celebrated his first Best of Breed win, his first calendar appearance and commiserated with me as I was experiencing the “typical” ASD counter-surfing and meatloaf stealing antics. When you buy a dog from a reputable breeder, you become part of their extended family. I was truly blessed the day I “stumbled” across the Long's website and joined their extended family.
